Flash Fiction: Plans of mice and men

For today’s fiction challenge I’ll generate 8 random words and I have to use them in a piece of fiction of no more than 100 words. So 8% of the words are already spoken for. Oh, and this is ‘strictly’ no more than 100 words.

The words are…

  • diver
  • ambulance
  • mouse
  • oar
  • cook
  • spark
  • cabbage
  • caper

Billy rummaged through the junk-heap, throwing handfuls of rubbish over his shoulder; used spark-plugs, half an oar, old cabbage leaves. He couldn’t believe he’d lost it.

Of all the things to lose, it had to be that. Without it, he had failed for sure. There’s lots of other things he could try to do to get money; ambulance driver, cook, deep-sea diver, but he’d be planning this caper for so long he couldn’t let it slip through his fingers so easily.

Billy sat down and sighed. A mouse ran out in front of him, carrying something shiny in his mouth.

So, what are you thinking?
